Oops! Looks like that didn't work too well (no pic). Oh, well....

In any case, the new pen is the Guardian Jr. It's a bigger pen but not too heavy. It has a nice set of "comfort grips" on the tip and a decent click mechanism. The "test group" loved it. If it looks like it'll be popular, I may add it here.

2 - I'll be doing the Elf Shelf show in Troy the Saturday after Thanksgiving (Nov 26). It's at Troy HS and we did it last year with good results. We'll be offering the same stuff as last year (mostly pens but also some pizza cutters, ice cream scoops, etc) but adding some neat bottle stoppers and key chains. Hope there's a good turnout!

(Webmaster note: Here's the Guardian Jr. pic)

First post in a while. Couple new things:

1 - I'm trying out a new pen. It's the "Guardian Jr" from Penn State Industries.

I had a request from a customer for a short bio. Here goes (with a wood/pen slant):

Ted was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. Ted's an Engineer by training and vocation. He graduated from Ohio State, obtained his professional engineer's registration in Ohio and worked in the natural gas business for 7 years before moving to Michigan, again to work for a natural gas distribution company. He is currently a registered professional engineer and a licensed storm water professional in Michigan. He retired from the natural gas distribution business in 2010.

Ted's lived and worked in Michigan for nearly 35 years. He rediscovered wood about 15 years ago and his passion for the craft has been growing ever since. Ted works in a 24 x 32 out building on his property. He moved there from a small basement shop and declares it's the only move he's ever enjoyed. Ted enjoys doing casework most but has been known to take on just about anything.

Several years ago, Ted's wife asked him if he could "make a pen" and gave him a starter kit for Christmas. Having no experience turning, he found a used lathe, turned a couple pens and was addicted. His pens are currently offered at 4 locations in the Lansing area and he also does a couple craft fairs each year.

First entry. Don't know how often I'll post here but will try to keep current things coming.

Pen stuff - Son Rob created the web site and has now added the pen selection and order form pages. Awesome! Only thing I missed was to add a pic or two to the "extras" tab. If someone is going to order a custom box, they should probably be able to see what they're getting, right? Also, I referenced upcharges for more expensive pen bodies (burls, coffee bean blanks, circuit board blanks, etc). No pics of those yet, either. Not sure if I want to go there.

Shop stuff - Did a little landscaping on the front of the shop. Looks real nice. I'll probably snooze on the porch too much now. Also, the interior has changed a bit. More storage in some new wall cabinets and some new machinery. Most notable is the new lathe. Got a Delta iron bed 1440. The variable speed drive is really a great time saver!
